Own Your Sh*t or Stay Stuck: Why Reinvention Isn’t Working (Yet) | EP 102

by | 8 Aug 2025

If you’ve read the books, filled the expensive journals, listened to all the podcasts… and still end most nights scrolling, snacking, and wondering why it doesn’t feel like enough, this is for you.

Because what I’ve realised is this….

Reinvention doesn’t start with a glow-up.

It doesn’t start with a new morning routine, a Pinterest board, or a saved quote in your Notes app.

It starts with one brutally honest question:

Are you actually living your life, or just reacting through a shinier mask?

The survival performance

For decades, most of us have been auditioning for the role of “fine”

You know the lines…..

  • “I’m fine, honestly”
  • “It’s just busy at the moment”
  • “Other people have it worse”

I bet you can do those lines in your sleep, can’t you?

Because you’ve been performing that crap through betrayals, through burnout, through years of holding the roof up while every other f*cker leant on you.

But you know what?

Sometimes “coping” is the very thing keeping you stuck.

Bracing isn’t breaking

You’re not broken. You’re bracing.

Like you’re permanently at the top of a rollercoaster, getting ready for the drop…. But still got a fixed smile in case there’s a camera hidden.

Holding it all in.

Swallowing it down.

Smiling through it because you’re terrified that if you stop performing for even one second, something inside you will crack wide open.

But bracing is like living in a cage.

It stops the fall, yeah, for sure, BUT it also sure as hell stops the flight too.

And reinvention can’t land when your whole nervous system is locked in “just get through it” mode.

What owning your sh*t actually means

In Episode 102 of The Reinvention Era Podcast, I shared the difference between fragility, resilience, and anti-fragility… and why “bouncing back” has never been the goal.

Because you don’t need to bloody “bounce back”

You need to break free.

Owning your sh*t isn’t blaming yourself.

It isn’t beating yourself up.

It’s this:

  • Noticing that your people-pleasing is actually self-abandonment.
  • Realising that over-functioning at work is actually outsourcing your worth.
  • Admitting that detaching from your feelings isn’t strength… it’s survival.

And then choosing, with intention, what comes next.

That’s it.

That’s the shift.

A broken arm and a brutal truth

When I broke my arm earlier this year, everyone told me how “brave” I was for coping.

What they didn’t see was me crying in the kitchen because I couldn’t open a f*cking jar.

Or the quiet internal rage that I was forced to ask for help….when I’d built a whole damn identity on never needing anyone.

That arm taught me more about reinvention than half the self-help section ever did.

Because coping wasn’t strength.

Letting myself be human was.

This post isn’t a how-to. It’s a mirror.

If you’re reading this with a tightness in your chest, with a voice whispering, “Sh*t, she’s talking about me…” good.

That means something’s ready to shift.

Because reinvention isn’t about burning it all down.

It’s about remembering who the f*ck you are underneath the roles you got good at performing.

It’s about choosing what comes next, not just hoping it’ll arrive.

So go listen to the episode. Let it land.

And when you’re ready, we’ll be waiting inside The Reinvention Era.

This chapter isn’t about fixing yourself.

It’s about finally coming home to yourself.
