Valentine’s Day has this annoying way of making even the most self-aware, capable AF women secretly question themselves.
Not in a hugely obvious, dramatic way. More in a subtle, low-level hum that sounds something like….
Am I doing this right?
Should I want something different?
Why does this still feel… off?
And the thing is, for most high-level women, Valentine’s Day isn’t actually painful. It’s just irritating.
Because you’re not waiting for romance to fly through the skies, knock on your door, whisk you off your feet and save you.
You’ve built a life, thanks. You’ve survived things. ALL the shizzle. You’re emotionally intelligent and deeply capable.
But that doesn’t stop Valentine’s Day from reinforcing a message most of us absorbed really early on. Like before the age of 9 early on.
That love, worth, and validation come from being chosen.
And that’s where main character energy gets a bit lost and blurry.
Valentine’s Day Isn’t the Problem. Outsourcing Your Worth Is
Valentine’s Day didn’t actually invent this narrative. It just highlights the hell out of it.
The idea that love is something that happens to you.
That being wanted is proof of value.
That self-worth is confirmed externally.
For high-level women especially, this can show up in surprisingly invisible ways.
- You don’t fall apart.
- You don’t spiral out of control.
- You keep functioning at cray cray levels.
But. Something ever so subtly shifts underneath.
- You start editing yourself down a bit.
- Your standards go a bit foggy.
- You over-explain, over-give, overthink.
Not because you’re insecure, but because you’ve been trained to measure yourself only through response, approval, and outcome.
And that’s not self-love. That’s self-management.
What Main Character Energy Actually Is (And Isn’t)
Main character energy isn’t loud and all extrovert and fireworks. It’s not showy. And it definitely isn’t about being the centre of attention either.
It’s entirely internal.
It’s the calm authority of a woman who trusts herself. The grounded sense of I’ve got me… regardless of who else does or doesn’t.
Main character energy is what happens when you stop living in reaction mode and start leading yourself again.
You feel it when….
- Your decisions don’t need justification
- Your boundaries don’t come with guilt
- Your nervous system isn’t braced for impact
It’s not about confidence as a personality trait. It’s about alignment with your goddamn self as a way of living.
Self-Love Isn’t a Feeling. It’s a Decision
One of the biggest myths sold to women is that self-love is something you feel your way into. That once you heal enough, affirm enough, rest enough, or anything else enough, self-trust will magically appear.
In reality though, self-love is built through decisions.
Through choosing yourself in small, unglamorous moments. Like…..
- Saying no when it would be easier to say yes
- Walking away without over-explaining
- Trusting your body’s response over your brain’s panic
Self-love with teeth doesn’t wait for certainty. It creates it.
Why Sisterhood Matters More Than Ever
This is where Galentine’s Day gets it right (even if it’s often misunderstood). Galentine’s isn’t about being anti-men. It’s about being pro-women.
There is something regulating, grounding, and deeply stabilising about being seen by women who don’t compete, minimise, or require you to be something you’re not.
Safe mirrors really matter.
Because when you’re around women who reflect your beautiful truth instead of your conditioning, you remember who the hell you are.
And self-love doesn’t just live inside you. It’s reinforced in the environments you choose.
You Were Never Unlucky. You Were Just Powerful
And whilst we’re talking all things sisterhood. Just an FYI….. Friday the 13th was never unlucky. It was actually associated with feminine cycles, intuition, and creation long before it was reframed as something to fear (by the patriarchy of course).
But just like women who trust themselves. Just like women who gather.
Decide.
Lead themselves.
The discomfort isn’t a sign you’re doing it wrong. It’s a sign you’re no longer living on autopilot.
You’re making choices now that work in YOUR power.
The F*ck Yes Mindset (And Why It’s Not Reckless)
A f*ck yes mindset isn’t impulsive. It’s certainty.
It’s when your body leads before fear starts negotiating. When clarity comes from resonance, not pressure.
If it’s not a f*ck yes…. it’s a no.
And that isn’t loss. It’s basic self-respect.
This is where main character energy becomes visible. Not in grand gestures, but in consistent choices.

This blog only scratches the surface.
In this week’s Reinvention Era podcast, Main Character Energy for Women Who Are Over Valentine’s Day, I unpack this conversation in full…. with nuance, humour, and the odd loving b*tch slap.
