The Most Important Person in Your Life (And Why It’s Not Your Kids, Partner or Dog)

by | 14 Nov 2025

Let’s get straight to the point.

If I asked you, “Who’s the most important person in your life?”

What would you say?

Your kids?

Your partner?

Your best friend?

Your dog?

Your bloody houseplants?

Cute.

But no.

The answer is you.

I know.

Feels weird to say it out loud, doesn’t it?

Almost wrong, like you’re about to get reported to Social Services or struck down by The Council of Good Mothers.

But hear me out.

You’ve Been Trained to Put Yourself Last

Most women have been raised to be useful before anything else.

Helpful.

Kind.

Pleasant.

The organiser.

The emotional sponge.

The one who carries everyone else’s chaos in her handbag along with 17 receipts, a half-melted lip balm and a broken biscuit.

Somewhere between childhood and adulthood, we absorbed the message:

Being selfless makes you loveable.
Being needed makes you valuable.

And because we’re high-functioning, competent, get-sh*t-done women, we became very good at being needed.

A bit too good.

To the point where we’ve accidentally built lives where:

  • Everyone else gets fed before us
  • We answer messages while our dinner goes cold
  • We can’t remember the last time we peed without someone needing something

And yes… here comes the tea metaphor. You knew it was coming.

The Cold Tea Problem

You make a cup of tea.

And before you’ve even taken one sip:

  • “I’ll just put a load of washing on”
  • “I’ll just reply to this email”
  • “I’ll just change this sheet, sign this form, rescue this child, mediate this emotional meltdown, fix world peace real quick”

Cut to….

Your tea is now colder than your ex’s heart.

So you reheat it.

Then forget about it again.

Repeat until the tea has the nutritional value of puddle water in a car park.

That tea is your life.

Your needs.

Your energy.

Your identity.

Always coming second, or third, or fifteenth.

Here’s the Truth You Probably Need to Hear

Putting yourself first isn’t selfish. It’s basic self-respect.

If you don’t choose yourself, you are teaching everyone else that you don’t need to be chosen.

And I don’t know about you, but that sounds like a tragic subplot I’m not interested in starring in.

So Where Do You Start?

Not with Bali.

Not with burning your life down.

Not with a £3,000 spiritual retreat involving chanting and seaweed.

Start by drinking your tea while it’s hot.

Tiny choices.

Small rebellions.

Little acts of “I matter.”

Sit down when you said you would.

Go to bed when you’re tired.

Say no with no apology paragraph attached.

Ask yourself, at least once a day:

What do I actually want right now?

And then honour the answer (even if the answer is “five minutes in the bathroom scrolling TikTok in silence while avoiding my family”)

It counts.

This is how you rebuild identity; in the tiny, everyday choices where you decide that you exist too.

And If You’re Thinking: “Okay Sarah, Love This… But I Need Help Starting”

Start your morning differently.

Not perfectly.

Not dramatically.

Just intentionally.

Seven minutes.

Before the world gets a piece of you.

Which is why I created the….

7 Minute Badass Power Morning Bundle

It includes:

  • A 7-minute guided audio with 7 tiny rituals
  • A Ritual Guide explaining why each one works
  • Disruptive Questions to snap your brain out of survival autopilot

It costs £7.77.

Cheaper than the dry flapjack at the motorway services that always disappoints you anyway.

Start tomorrow.

Drink your tea while it’s hot.

Choose yourself first.

Because you are the most important person in your life.

And it’s bloody time you acted like it!
