Your Brain Is Like a Nightclub (And It’s Time to Rewrite the Guest List) | EP104

by | 22 Aug 2025

You’ve got the chandelier.

The playlist.

The big vision, the big dreams.

But look around your mental VIP section right now…. who the f*ck let self-doubt in again?

If you’ve ever wondered why, despite the journaling, the affirmations, the podcasts, and the damn vision board… you still hit the same glass walls?

This is why.

Reinvention doesn’t just happen on Pinterest.

It happens at the front door of your brain.

Why a nightclub?

Because your brain is like one.

And most women are trying to step into their rich, bold, badass AF identity while their inner club staff are still running “Please Like Me Thursdays” circa 2007.

Here’s what’s really going on inside your mental nightclub:

  • RAS: The Flyer Girl
Your Reticular Activating System filters what you even notice. If your script is “I’m not ready,” she only hands out flyers that prove you right.
  • Amygdala: The Bouncer
Sees anything unfamiliar (visibility, wealth, taking up space) as a threat. She radios backup the second you dare wear something new or post without a disclaimer.
  • Hippocampus: The Secretary
Pulls old files. Ten years ago you flopped a launch? Got ghosted? She stamps every similar attempt with “⚠ Suspicious”
  • 👩‍Hypothalamus: Head of HR
Overreacts to anything new by flooding you with cortisol. She’s not trying to ruin your night…. she just hasn’t been retrained.

And meanwhile, you’re sitting in VIP waiting and wondering why your new VIP guests you really want, haven’t showed up.

Why this matters for reinvention

Because if you want to build a new identity, it’s not enough to “believe in yourself”

You have to convince the staff at the door that you’re safe here.

Otherwise, every big move will feel like sneaking past security with a fake ID. You know, like the time you used your big sister’s?!

How to retrain your staff (without a full brain rebrand)

  1. Give your brain new files.
The Hippocampus only approves what it recognises. Feed it micro-evidence like … .speaking up, resting without guilt, posting without apologising. Every time you do? New file stamped: Safe. Repeat.
  2. Turn the bouncer into a hype squad.
The Amygdala isn’t evil, she’s just overprotective and trying to keep you safe in VIP. Next time you do something brave? Celebrate. Breathe. Move your body. Teach her that “new” doesn’t mean danger…. It means good and growth.
  3. Upgrade the flyers.
Your RAS is a filter, not a fortune teller. If you keep telling her “I’m not enough,” she’ll keep pointing out evidence to prove it. Swap the script. Visualise the future you. Say it. Act it. Eventually, she’ll only invite the right people in.
  4. Rewire the stress response.
Your Hypothalamus learns through repetition. Set tiny rituals: a morning intention, an evening check-in. Over time, she’ll clock that expansion = ease, not panic.

What about alter egos?

Think Beyoncé’s Sasha Fierce.

Alter egos aren’t fake….they’re focused.

They let you embody the woman who’s been sat waiting for her invite, in killer heels, rolling her eyes, tapping her nails like: “Can we please f*cking go now?”

They’re not about pretending.

They’re about remembering.

Bottom line

Reinvention isn’t just a glow-up.

It’s a guest list upgrade.

Not just confidence…. capacity.

Not just vision…. a nervous system that can actually hold it.

And the truth is, the woman you’re trying to become?

She’s already on the list. You just need to tell security she belongs there.

Because you don’t need another glow-up.

You need to go off.
